SNL

I am a huge fan of Saturday Night Live! I learn a lot of things that happen in the world through SNL.  Like the fact that I didn't know about the College basketball coach getting fired at Rutgers University for abuse to his players.  CNN states, "Rutgers University fired head basketball coach Mike Rice on Wednesday after seeing video footage of him physically and verbally abusing players by saying things to them like, "You f**king fairy ... you're a f**king fa**ot," and seeing him shoving and throwing basketballs at players."

This is the ESPN story on Mike Rice

This is absolutely horrible, but I couldn't help but laugh! What would you do if your coach was hitting you with balls or was pushing you around. Wouldn't you quit? I guess I just couldn't take this video seriously because I saw the SNL version first

SNL knows how to take one story and just blow it out of proportion.  But I absolutely love it. This was definitely one of SNL's best skits I have seen in an extremely long time.  Good job SNL.

  1. WOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW I was totally going to write about this!!!!! thanks a lot!!! anyways yes SNL is pretty entertaining when it comes to highly controversial topics. I found it interesting that This video was actually seen in December by a few important people and hardly any consequences were given yet when the mass media got a hold of it everything to fall apart very quickly. interesting. nice post!

  2. I just think He is just being a normal coach. The rest of the video was funny. On a serious note, the punishment of being fired, I think is a little too harsh.

  3. Did the coach forget to take his medicine? That is crazy. Usually, The players look up to a coach but not this crazy, sick coach. He needs anger management classes and I think he should give up coaching. I cannot believe the players did not punch him. I know I would, especially if someone physically abuses me. So sad.

  4. For starters I love SNL! The fact they can look into the comedic aspect of such serious issues and bring a little light heartedness to the world just brings a smile to your face. Without a doubt this can be considered a different source of information with a very unique perspective on life. As you pointed out you learned of this story first through SNL.

  5. I think SNL is a good media source in the sense that it twists current events and makes them relevant to an audience that wouldn't normally tune in. The skit was hilarious and made me want to find out more about that crazy coach. Nice post, kudos!!
